  •      Living and working overseas for over two decades brought Lynn into contact with a variety of people and social situations.  She relished the cultural differences encountered in each of the countries that she called home.  Settling in was not just a matter of figuring out local logistics, but more importantly, immersing herself in the history and artistic heritage of the country.
         After graduating with a BFA in Photography from Pratt Institute, New York, Lynn moved to Australia.  She was drawn to Australia’s vast inland desert landscape, which was the subject of her first one-person exhibition, Horizons(1981), at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne.

    Lynn Silverman

    Lynn Silverman (American, b. 1952) is a distinguished photographer who was born in Syracuse, New York.  After graduating from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, she emigrated to Sydney, Australia where she taught for 6 years.   Following a brief period back in the United States, Silverman emigrated to Britain where she was awarded a Master of Arts from Goldsmith’s College in London.  The experience of living on three different continents has had a profound effect on the way Lynn sees the world, which is reflected in her practice.  Silverman eventually returned to the United States where she became a long-standing Professor of Photography at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, and where she is now currently Professor Emeritus. Silverman’s career is marked by myriad important solo and group exhibitions worldwide, and her work is the subject of many books, catalogues, scholarly journals, and even a
