    CHEK2*1100delC is a founder variant in European populations that confers a two- to threefold increased fara of breast cancer (BC). Epidemiologic and family studies have suggested that the risk associated with CHEK2*1100delC is modified by other genetic factors in a multiplicative fashion. W

    A researcher and conservationist of marine mammals in the Dominican Republic and other regions. He studied at the State University of Odessa, Ukraine, USSR, obtaining a master's degree in Hydrobiology in early 1983. Upon his return he joined UASD's Research Center of Marine Biology (CIBIMA) where, among other duties, served as Coordinator of the Marine Mammal Program (PROMMAR).

    He specialized in Marine Ecology and Aquaculture at the Graduate School of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD). In 1987 he received technical training on Humpback Whale research at the Center for Coastal Studies, in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

    At CIBIMA in 1987 he founded the Caribbean Network of Sightings and Stranding of Marine Mammals. Chávez was also leader of the Fifth Republic Movement political party from its foundation in 1997 until 2007, when it merged with several other parties to form the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), which he led until 2012. Born into a middle class family in Sabaneta, Barinas, Chávez became a career military officer, and after becoming dissatisfied with the Venezuelan political system based on the Puntofijo Pact, he founded the clandestine Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement-200 (MBR-200) in the early 1980s. Chávez led the MBR-200 in an unsuccessful coup d'état against the Democratic Action government of President Carlos Andrés Pérez in 1992, for which he was imprisoned.
