Raghavendra H Auradkar took charge as the new commissioner of Bangalore city on Friday, replacing Jyothiprakash Mirji who was shifted on the directions of the Election Commission. Vibgyor High School rape case: Raghavendra Auradkar transferred

BANGALORE: Cracking the whip, Karnataka government today transferred Bangalore city Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkarin the wake of a series of rape cases, including that of a 6-year-old girl student in a public school.

Auradkar has been transferred with immediate effect and posted as Additional Director General of Police of Karnataka State Reserve Police, a government notification said, with the action coming amid continuing protests over the alleged rape of the girl.

The city police chief had come under severe criticism over the handling of the issue and faced public ire with protesters demanding answers for the delay in arresting the culprits involved in the incident which had evoked public outrage.

The incident at Vibgyor High School had happened on July 2 and the first arrest -of a skating instructor from Bihar- was made yesterday, six days after the complaint was lodged with the police.

In recent days,
