Torres, as he is known in the guitar world, was born and died in Almería (1817-1892), in a suburb, called La Cañada de San Urbano, halfway between Níjar fields and Almeria coast. He also lived in Vera (Almeria), Seville, and for a short time, in Barcelona.

He has two different ages, as regards its making (even acknowledged on its own labels). The first, almost completely in Seville, where he reached a well-deserved popularity and was awarded with a medal in 1858 Exposition.

The second age, in Almería, where he devoted himself to the making from 1875 to nearly the very day of his death.

Antonio de Torres is regarded as the father of the guitar, and for a good reason. Picking the best materials of his previous time, as well as innovating on his own, he accomplished the instrument we know as guitar today. Both “classic” and flamenco guitar.

I was born in 1940 in Woburn, Massachusetts, and spent most of my growing-up years in the suburbs of Washington, DC.  When I was a kid, I was constantly making things.  One winter I made a bobsled, just like the ones I was seeing in the winter Olympics, steering wheel and all.

There was just one bekymmer with “Jake’s bobsled,” as my neighborhood buddies scornfully called it: it wouldn’t go anywhere.  It just wouldn’t move in the sparse, wet Maryland snow.  The next summer in Cape Cod I made a set of sails out of old bedsheets for a neighbor’s dory.  Unlike the bobsled, the dory actually moved around Provincetown harbor—quite nicely, thank you—propelled by my hand-crafted canvas.

Henderson was born May 3, 1947, in Grayson County, Virginia,^[1] where he still resides today. He is a full-time instrument builder and musician, specializing in building guitars, mandolins, and plays with a unique finger-picking style. Though he has lived in Grayson County, Virginia, all of his life, Henderson has played countless performances in the southeast and in many foreign countries as well.
