Katy McLaughlin longs to be back on her ranch in Wyoming, galloping over the hills with the horses she adores. However, as she sits daydreaming in school, she could never have imagined that her father would one day, after deeming it too dangerous, force her to sell the magnificent horse of her dreams, which horse she would soon meet and tame. Flicka: The Movie Novel is a story of how a teenage cowgirl, Katy McLaughlin, struggles to create a relationship of mutual understanding with her father, to tame the black stallion of her dreams, and to help her brother muster the courage to leave the ranch and go to college.
