Olubankole Wellington, a musician and record label owner, has explained his reason for deciding to join politics and run for a seat in the house of representatives.
The actor, singer, writer and filmmaker is gunning to represent Eti-Osa local government area of Lagos.
Speaking at an event tagged ‘The Convergence: Power, Capacity, Politics’, the entertainer who is professionally known as Banky W said his compulsive yearn to contribute to fixing Nigeria is his major motivation.
The event, an initiative of Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement (YIAGA Africa) and the Not Too Young To Run movement, was attended by young candidates of different political parties.
Banky W talked about how he started out selling CDs from his car’s boot and building Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), one of the biggest record labels in the country.
The nascent politician, who is running on the Modern Democratic Party (MDP) platform, said he believes he can make a difference

Banky W, Kola Aina, Eric Idiahi, Seni Sulyman selected for 2020 Tutu Leadership Fellowship
The African Leadership Institute has selected 21 outstanding emerging African leaders from 11 different African countries ranging in age 30 to 39 years for the Tutu Leadership Fellowship for 2020. They were selected from 300 entries.
Amongst the 21 are 4 Nigerians including Bankole Wellington (Banky W), Olamide ‘Kola’ Aina, Eric Idiahi, and Seni Sulyman. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fellowship Programme has been put on hold until it becomes safe igen for the workshops to be held and it will be rescheduled to take place when everything has settled down again.
