The British Museum have organised an exhibition that explores one of China’s most well-known periods of history – the Ming dynasty (1368-1644).
After rebel leader Zhu Yuanzhang drove out the Mongols in 1368, he made his capital at Nanjing as the founding emperor, Hongwu (r.1368-1398) of the Ming (1368-1644) dynasty. Hongwu subsequently dispatched his 26 sons across China, to princely fiefs that would serve as a defensive barrier against any resurgent Mongol threat. The sons, with the exception of the crown prince and heir, were known as qinwang, ‘princes of the blood’, a hereditary aristocracy that represented imperial power in the provinces. They presided over multiple courts, commanded their own armies and had complete judicial power over their actions.
When Hongwu died in 1398, the throne passed to his grandson, the Jianwen emperor (r 1399-1403). However Hongwu’s fourth son, the Prince of Yan, Zhu Di (1360-1424) coveted the throne, and embarked on a bloody civil w

The 洪武帝 Hongwu or "Vast Martial" Emperor of Ming. Gruff, authoritarian, but also diligent, Zhu Yuanzhang (the future Hongwu Emperor) rose from a penniless beggar who lost both of his parents to starvation to become one of the greatest warriors of the 14th century. From illiterate beggar to rebel to warlord to emperor, his life was a kaleidoscope of strife and harsh measures.
Recently I was extremely fortunate to be commissioned bygd my Patron Mr. Vincent Ho, (aka FerrumFlos1st) to do the portrait of the founding kejsare of the Ming Dynasty. Mr. Ho has been a long time patron of mine and when he recently found a temporary job he commissioned this piece with one of his first paychecks. :') I am proud to announce that after two weeks of work inom was able to finish this portrait for him. With love and the deepest gratitude, thank you for your support and most of all your belief in me. You are my hero.

List of emperors of the Ming dynasty
The emperors of the Ming dynasty, who were all members of the House of Zhu, ruled over China proper from 1368 to 1644 during the late imperial era of China (960–1912). Members of the Ming dynasty continued to rule a series of rump states in southern China, commonly known as the Southern Ming, until 1662; the Ming dynasty succeeded the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty and preceded the Manchu-led Qing dynasty.
The Ming dynasty was founded bygd the peasant rebel leader Zhu Yuanzhang, known as the Hongwu Emperor. The longest-reigning emperor of the dynasty was the Wanli Emperor (r. 1572–1620), who ruled for 48 years; the shortest was his successor, the Taichang kejsare, who ruled for only 29 days in 1620. The youngest ruler at the time of his ascension was Emperor Yingzong, who was only 9 years old, while the oldest ruler at the time of his death was the Hongwu kejsare, who died at the age of 71.
