  • 4.  In its most basic form, audiology can be regarded as the science or study of hearing (Katz, 2002; Roeser, Valente & Hosford-Dunn, 2000).  The term audiology is a combination of the Latin word “audire”, to hear, and the Greek word “logia”, meaning the science or theory of hearing.  Clinical audiology involves studying hearing as part of the human communication system (Kidd, Cox & Matthies, 2003).

    Who created mankind in different colours, shapes, sizes and with different abilities,
    And He created each one a unique being,
    And He created each one with a wisdom which only He knows best
    And He manifested His creation so that we may ponder and reflect
    And Glorify Him for giving us the best.

    Today, I’d like to talk about deafness.

    Without going into medical details, in layman’s terms, deafness is defined as the inability to hear sounds. If we cannot hear sounds, the brain cannot register and therefore there is no output, no expressive speech, no understanding, no emotion etc.

    However, Allah SWT, in His infinite mercy, by giving deafness to human being, He has also given them the ability to perceive, to understand, to be expressive, to display emotions, to talk, to relay messages, to be receptive and for the brain to register and respond.

    So, one may wonder, how is that possible?

    Abstract

    Background: More than 6.8% of the world's population suffer from disabling hearing impairment. Hearing impairment can cause lifelong or even life-threatening problems and has a significant impact on the health and quality of life. This study aimed to analyze the current situation of the ear and hearing care (EHC) in the frame of Iran health system.

    Methods: This situation analysis was performed over a 5-year period (2013-2017) using the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats analysis method. First, after formation of the steering committee, all betydelsefull published and unpublished articles and reports were reviewed and analyzed. In the next step, focused group discussion sessions (FGDs) were held with the participation of the experts, stakeholders, and Steering Committee members. Through the scissor-and-sort technique, the relevant data were highlighted and main categories evolved.

    Results: The main challenges included inadequate health literacy,
