Christopher Walken
Christopher Walken – Short Bio
Christopher Walken, actually Ronald Christopher Walken, was born on March 31, 1943 in New York City. He is an American actor, director, film producer, dancer and singer. In 1978, he won an Oscar for best supporting actor in the film Deer hunter.
The Early Years
Walken was raised in Queens, the youngest of three sons of Paul Walken, a baker and a German immigrant, and Rosalie, a Scottish immigrant. As a child, he modeled and appeared in television shows. He took dance lessons and graduated from the Professional Children's School in New York in 1961.
Acting Career
Walken continued his acting education at Hofstra University and ANTA. He made his Broadway debut in 1959 in JBIn the following years he gained recognition in the role of King Philip II in Lions in winter and Jack Hunter in Tattooed rose. In 1977 he played in Annie Hall, and a year later he won an Oscar for his role in Deer hunters.

From old Kaesong to Portlandia
In 1392, when General Ri Song Gye forced the last king of the Koryo Dynasty to abdicate, his forces proceeded to try to eliminate the royal family and their many relatives in the region of the capital Kaesong. The direct scions of the Koryo royal family had adopted the surname ‘Wang’ and had inhabited the region for more than five centuries. ‘Wang’ means ‘king’ in Korean and at the time was written using the Chinese character ‘王’.
One can imagine soldiers loyal to General Ri sweeping the capital district – neighborhood by neighborhood, town by town, and village by village - for Wangs, most of whom would have had shared only tenuous ties with their formally privileged royal relatives. These death squads would have been looking for the character ‘王’ on in local records and the family histories kept in any
